If I thought the weather could not get any worse, wrong on all
accounts. The roads into Corpus Christi are all closed to ice. The
bridge to Padre Island is closed until sometime tomorrow morning and
again to ice conditions. Houston, Texas had over 800 car accidents
during this time frame.
Busted my backside to the max slipping on ice while taking pictures.
Thankful to wearing multilayer's of clothes that saved my lower
anatomy but the camera took a major hit.
Temps dropping below zero again tonight and the pop-up camper is like
a bloody wind tunnel………. Ceramic heaters going full bore but even
having one duct taped to my backside is not an improvement.
Now that we are back to normalcy with temps in the mid 60's life in
the pop-up camper has improved 100%.
Geocaching continues with me numbers over 600 plus. The downside of
this is as I am living in just one area during these 3 months is the
time to find other Geocaching sites impacts on your time and gas as
the searching circle keeps getting larger. There is one gentleman in
the Corpus Christi area that has over 27,000 caches to his record. I
believe, he must have started when he was just weaned off the bottle.
The National Park volunteers meet at a different restaurant every
Saturday night and it's a great way to accumulate heartburn be it
Chinese, Mexican, Italian or local.
There have been some nights when there was not enough Maalox in the
state of Texas to calm me stomach.
The organic farmers from Pennsylvania, where I store the goatmobile,
where here camping on Padre Island for a week. A friend of theirs, the
HR director, and personal trainer of a well-known brothel in Dallas,
Texas was here for visit also. It was a proper piss up for a night or
two and isn't it amazing how the old tales seem to expand as the night
continues.
Made the 120-mile (round trip) to mile marker 60 on the Padre Barrier
Island. Six hours of beach, deep sand, and salt water driving. As
passengers I had the wife and her 80-year-old sister (a case or two of
Depends made the trip) of where the pop-up camper is parked. As a
treat I had to allow the women to bring along their Great Dane
Beowulf………ever have a 125 lb dog that drools, bad breath and has to
pee every 10 minutes go 6 hrs in a small cab of a truck. Not only that
he has to go back and forth between the front and rear seat and to add
the misery, Beowulf gets carsick and, well just imagine. How that dog
survived the trip without me tossing him to the sharks can be
attribute to my sensitivity training over the years.
And of course I just might be stretching the truth a bit about the dog
though, how does a 12 lb terrier sound. But for the sister we did go
through 2 cases of Depends, for those in the southern latitudes its
adult diapers, and these are recyclable, thank you Johnston & Johnston
for this!!!
And on President's day I had my first run in with a Texas Rattler
Snake while Geocaching. Of course for the last 2 months it's been just
too cold for the snakes to make an appearance but now that things are
warming up the critters will be a concern.
Some where in the Gulf of Mexico a ship lost a deck load of lumber
which is just now washing up on the Padre Island beaches. Spent the
past week running up the beach picking up same (Facebook). Just in
the 3 days that I've been out there we have probably picked up over
3-4 thousand dollars worth of lumber.
February is going out with temps in the 60-70's a complete turn around
from the freezing temps that greeted me at the beginning of the month.
March is the last month working as a volunteer for the Padre Island
National Seashore. It's been a great experience especially the Corpus
Christi area. Gas prices going from $2.25 to $3.20 a gallon but the
cost of me Black Box of wine has remained steady at $17.50.
Can't think of anything rude or crude to finish out the month so I
will bid you all an Aloha and fair winds.
