diet water
new book on secret service
JFK and LBJ = Philanderers of the highest order, both kept a lot of women in White House for affairs. Both set up "early warning" systems for it and when their wives were nearby. Total immoral men.
In addition, LBJ was as crude as the day is long.
Richard Nixon = Weird, moral man but very odd and weird. Paranoid, etc. Horrible relationship with his family, almost a recluse.
Spiro Agnew = A nice, decent man, everyone was surprised at his downfall.
Jerry Ford = A true gentlemen who treated them with respect and dignity.
Jimmy Carter = A complete phony. Would portray one picture of himself to the public and a very different one in private; i.e., he would be shown carrying his own luggage, suit cases were always empty, he kept empty one just for photo ops. Wanted the people to see him as pious and a non-drinker, yet he and family drank alcohol a lot. Had disdain for the Secret Service, and was very irresponsible with the "football" nuclear codes. Didn't think it was a big deal and would keep military aides at a great distance. Would never acknowledge military or Secret service were there to serve him.
Ronald Reagan = The real deal. Moral, Honest, respectful and dignified. Treated Secret Service and everyone else with respect and honor. Would always thank everyone all the time. He took the time to know everyone on a personal level. One story was early on in Presidency… the President came out of his room with a side arm attached to his hip. The Agent in charge said "Why the pistol Mr. President?" Ronald Reagan replied, "In case you boys can't get the job done, I can help." It was common for him to carry a pistol. People do not know that when he met with Gorbachev, he had a pistol in his briefcase. Upon learning that Gary Hart was caught with Donna Rice during the election Ronald Reagan said, "Boys will be boys, but boys will not be President."
Nancy Reagan = Very nice but very protective of the President . . . the Secret Service was always caught in the middle. Nancy would try to control what the President ate all the time (healthy) and he would say to the Agents "Come on you gotta help me out." The Reagans rarely drank alcohol. Secret Service said they could count on one hand the times the Reagans were served alcohol other than wine during dinner. They made the comment for all the fake bluster of the Carters. It was the Reagans who lived life as genuinely moral people.
George and Barbara Bush = Extremely kind and considerate. Always respectful. Took great care in making sure the agents comforts were taken care of. They would bring them meals etc. One time Barbara Bush brought warm clothes to agents standing outside at Kennebunkport. One agent who was given a warm hat tried to nicely say no thanks when he was obviously freezing and President Bush said "Son, don't argue with the first lady, put the hat on."
Bill Clinton = Presidency was one giant party. Not trustworthy, he was nice because he wanted everyone to like him, but life is just one big game and party to him.
Hillary Clinton = Another phony. Her personality would change the instant cameras were near. She hated with open disdain the military and Secret Service. Again another one who felt people are there to serve her. She was always trying to keep tabs on Bill Clinton.
Al Gore = An egotistical ass who was once overheard by his Secret Service detail when he told his son he needed to do better in school or he "would end up like these guys" and pointed to the Secret Service agents.
G. W. Bush = They loved him and Laura Bush. They said no one is a nicer person than Laura Bush who never has a harsh word to say about anyone. The Bush's went out of their way to take care of the Secret Service and made sure they were well cared for with meals and other comforts. GW was the most prompt of the Presidents. He ran like a well-oiled machine. He was also the most in shape who had a very strict work out regimen. The Bush's made sure their entire administration understood to respect and be considerate of the Secret Service. Karl Rove was the one who was the most caring of the Secret Service in the administration.
Barack Obama - Clintons all over again. Hates the military and looks down on the Secret Service.

A Woman's Place...Brilliant
WOMEN WHO KNOW THEIR PLACE
Barbara Walters, of 20/20, did a story on gender roles in Kabul, Afghanistan, several years before the Afghan conflict.
She noted that women customarily walked five paces behind their husbands.
She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still walk behind
their husbands. Despite the overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime, the women now seem happy to maintain the old custom.
Ms Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked, 'Why do you now seem happy with an old custom that you once tried so desperately to change?'
The woman looked Ms Walters straight in the eyes, and without hesitation
said, "Land mines."
Moral of the story is (no matter what language you speak or where you go):
BEHIND EVERY MAN, THERE'S A SMART WOMAN!=
GAS prices around the world...

How wasteful the older generation is?
Food for thought:

In the line at the store, the cashier told the older woman
that she should bring her own grocery bag because plastic bags weren't
good for the environment.. The woman apologized to him and explained,
"We didn't have the green thing back in my day."
The clerk responded, "That's our problem today. The former generation
did not care enough to save our environment."
He was right, that generation didn't have the green thing in its day.
Back then, they returned their milk bottles, soda bottles and beer
bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be
washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles
over and over. So they really were
recycled.
But they didn't have the green thing back in that customer's day.
In her day, they walked up stairs, because they didn't have an escalator
in every store and office building. They walked to the grocery store and
didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time they had to go two
blocks.
But she was right. They didn't have the green thing in her day.
Back then, they washed the baby's diapers because they didn't have the
throw-away kind. They dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling
machine burning up 220 volts - wind and solar power really did dry the
clothes. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters,
not always brand-new clothing.
But that old lady is right, they didn't have the green thing back in her
day.
Back then, they had one TV, or radio, in the house - not a TV in every
room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a hankerchief, not a
screen the size of the state of Montana . In the kitchen, they blended
and stirred by hand because they didn't have electric machines to do
everything for you. When they packaged a fragile item to send in the
mail, they used a wadded up old newspaper to cushion it, not styrofoam
or plastic bubble wrap.
Back then, they didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut
the lawn. They used a push mower that ran on human power. They exercised
by working so they didn't need to go to a health club to run on
treadmills that operate on electricity.
But she's right, they didn't have the green thing back then.
They drank from a fountain when they were thirsty instead of using a cup
or a plastic bottle every time they had a drink of water. They refilled
their writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and they
replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole
razor just because the blade got dull.
But they didn't have the green thing back then.
Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes
to school or rode the school bus instead
of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. They had one
electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a
dozen appliances. And they didn't need a computerized gadget to receive
a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to
find the nearest pizza joint.
But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful the old
folks were just because they didn't have the green thing back then?

US/Canada Travels for 5.2011
What does everyone do eventually when they are writing such
interesting BS over time? They delete the current blog and its only
when they go back to add some more very important data that they
realize that, and of course this does not pertain to moi, that there
has been a major screw up. So my worthwhile friends of very little
patience I am trying to re-capitulate my past travels for the last 3
weeks.
For one I spent 2 weeks at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge as a
volunteer in SE Oregon putting up signs, grumpy old fuds and a blocked
up loo that never got cleared. Matter of fact all of the volunteers
were issued a black bucket upon checking in for waste material. Of
course if you did not use the bucket then you had a 2-mile walk
through snakes, viscous rabbets, and free ranging cattle. And town was
30 miles away so food and petrol was a big consideration before anyone
with the free spirit decided to go anywhere. My performance as a sign
put-to-upper was so appreciated that I have volunteer for another
stint at the refuge after I leave Padre Island, Texas next year.
Going west on Route 20 to Bend, Oregon was my next move. Again staying
with friends that I had met through US Fish & Wildlife working the
Hawaiian Islands.
The wife just kept going on about their new house and the 10 acres
that surround them. Well remember the FEMA trailers that were used
when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. They had bought 2 trailers,
welded them together and threw a blue tarp over the roof then found a
sewage tanker on e-bay for their fresh water catchment system.
Innovative yes and considering that they are both are from Alabama,
organic and a fun day for them is taking a shower every 2 weeks……………No
wonder that there is no fly problems.
Bend, Oregon has a Costco of major proportions. This means that I can
store up on wine, California dates, and Power Bars guanteed to
generate as much methane gas as possible. The next leg of the journey
is going to the coast of Oregon then north through Washington State
before venturing to the island of Vancouver, British Columbia.
Leaving Bend, we follow Route 20 west passing through Three Sisters
which over the Memorial Weekend is crawling with tourist, traffic and
the frustration of getting through the town itself. After that the
next bit of excitement is going over the Cascades Mountains. Well snow
was causing traffic to come to almost a stand still in places. Spent
the night at a side road in the Mt Jefferson Wilderness. Man was it
bloody cold but with multiple layers of clothing and sleeping bag and
a bit of the red fine wine sleep was possible. Morning brought more
snow but manageable. Passed numerous vehicles in the ditch and believe
me when the speed limit was 10 mph or slower people finally realized
just how treacherous the roads were. Once you got though the Cascades
temps climbed, elevation dropped and you gradually got back to the
greenery of forest.
Followed Route 20 to 239 then north to Lincoln, Route 101, where the
tourist reigned supreme and of course Memorial Day weekend just added
to the congestion. Mt Hebo campsite, part of the Siuslaw National
Forest it is for the night; rain is the current grump of this area but
the temps are in the 40's with no complaint from me.
Route 101 up the coast is always a great drive but as developers and
tourism expands its becoming more of a traffic problem then scenic
coast of Oregon. Astoria and the National Guard base is where I'll
spend the next few days Geocaching. Then once Memorial Day is over and
traffic along with it, its north over the bridge into the State of
Washington.
Well the last day in Astoria, Oregon has proven to be wet as usual
and was I expecting anything different?
Stay safe, travel well and may the wine last the trip.
Aloha,
The Greynomad
